Guiltless Brownies

I have been craving brownies lately but I didn’t want to buy boxed mix. I decided to look up some recipes and decided to make some substitutes to make these brownies low calorie! The original recipe says to cut these into 16 pieces at 160 calories and a whopping 10 grams of fat per piece! 16 pieces would be a tiny tiny brownie. This version gives you bigger brownies for a lot less! There is also no oil or butter in these brownies, which makes them a little cakey-er than normal brownies, but it also makes them much better for you!

Guiltless Brownies

Servings: 9 (1 brownie per serving)

Amount per serving: 99 calories—21g carbs—1g fat—3g protein—14g sugar

Ingredients

  •  ½ cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup Splenda or other granulated sucralose
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional and not included in nutrition content)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray an 9×9 baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together apple sauce, sugar, splenda, and vanilla. Once combined, beat in both eggs.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  4. Put the dry ingredients in with the wet ingredients and mix together until combined.
  5. Pour batter into the pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until done.
  6. If you want to, add the chocolate chips to the top when 5 minutes are left.
  7. Let cool, cut into 9 pieces, and enjoy!

I put my batch in an 11×7 pan which is why they’re so thin. Putting them in a 9×9 or 8×8 pan will make them thicker.
